Marseille is only a few hours from Lyon, so I booked a getaway for a weekend. I caught an early train from Lyon and first thing on arrival at my destination was to find a good espresso and croissant.
I explored a museum, rode scooters, and got yelled at for taking a picture of fish (in their defense, there were signs everywhere that said no photos but yolo right?). I got an insane sunburn from too much time at the beach without sunscreen and walked until my feet were angry.
I also unashamedly did a "little train" tour of Marseille. I feel confident those are geared at children and elderly people, but whatever, I enjoyed. The train took me up the hill to see a beautiful church and a stunning view of the city.
I stayed with a friend of a friend and we ate together, watched Groundhog Day, and had lovely conversation over a a drink in the evening.
The next morning I had an even earlier train back to Lyon and I, sleepy-eyed, tried to board a train to Paris by accident. I kept telling the train attendant, "Je sais pas pourquoi ça marche pas. (I don't know why it's not working.)" Finally she checked my ticket and was like this isn't even your train. Oooops! Most of the trains don't have attendants checking your ticket, so I was fortunate to not be on the wrong train. But in the end, it all worked out and I had a lovely weekend on the coast.
